Jim is the owner of the largest Hunting, Fishing and Taxidermy store in Nova Scotia.

Jim’s extensive experience in the area of hunting and fishing began as a child. From six to eight years of age, Jim lived with the Ojibwa People in Long Lac, Ontario, where his (adopted uncles) taught him about trapping beaver and hunting black bears. Later during his teen and adult years, he found himself fishing in Northern Ontario & Manitoba for Walleye, Sturgeon, Perch, Northern Pike and more. Jim spent seven years in B.C. where he fished Spring and Coho Salmon in the Straits of Juan de Fuca and trout in the Pot Holes on Vancouver Island. Years ago Jim took top positions in Stripped Bass competitions held on Grand Lake, N.S.

Jim has also hunted extensively; Black Tail Deer on the B.C. Gulf Islands and many years of Whitetail Deer and Moose Hunting in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. Jim was actually charged on two occasions by a cow moose protecting her calves—and lived to tell about it.

Today, Jim is also a Nova Scotia Field Officer, with the National Firearms Association, and a Wildlife Instructor, for the Professional Nova Scotia Guides Course.

Jim Hnatiuk is a 37 year veteran taxidermist and has trained his very capable staff to do this work. Jim’s business currently produces the largest number of taxidermic  animals in Nova Scotia. Hnatiuk’s staff of 11 employees includes three taxidermist specializing in different areas. People from other countries who are hunting and fishing in Canada often bring their trophies to Hnatiuk’s to be mounted. Jim’s business has mounted and shipped customer’s trophies to USA, England, France, Sweden, Germany, Norway and more. Hnatiuk’s staff mounted two Atlantic salmon which can be found on display in a museum in London, England.
