Jim and Ellen Hnatiuk

Son of a blacksmith, much of Jim’s early education was received from a boy’s boarding school taught by Oblate Priests. After 25 years of military service within the Combat Systems Engineering Department in the Canadian Forces, Jim attained the rank of Chief Petty Officer 1st Class and retired with Certificate of Service and Canadian Decoration.

Jim married his Nova Scotia bride Ellen, his support and constant companion thirty-five years ago. Together they have a son, a daughter and two wonderful grandchildren.

Jim spent years within the United and Presbyterian churches ministering to and helping teens get off the street. Jim is a devout Christian, and holds in respect all denominations and faiths. He is presently a Deacon at Emmanuel Baptist Church.

For his many years of volunteer work in his community, Jim has been recognized with Certificates of Appreciation. In small business, Jim established a construction laser service centre as well as the largest hunting, fishing & taxidermy business in Nova Scotia.

Jim’s diverse experience and professional training is now an asset, providing him with the sensitivity and leadership to work in the political arena.

Jim’s drive is fuelled by his passion for Canada and the future of this country. “The family unit is what builds a community and our country; the government would do well to focus on protecting it.”
