The Big Fish at Hnatiuk's had visitors today

CTV News arrived to get the Leader's views on Search-and-Rescue
CHP Leader Jim Hnatiuk took a quick break from door-knocking to answer questions from a CTV camera crew in his hunting and fishing supplies store. The news station was looking for his perspective on the developments in the recent search-and-rescue that ended badly in Golden BC. Jim’s Navy experience and his involvement with the outdoors have given him a unique perspective on issues of this nature. In addition, the issues arising out of this tragedy—bureaucratic bungling, litigation against volunteers seeking to help (good Samaritans), the reluctance of other search-and-rescue crews to risk lawsuits and court-imposed penalties—all these issues invite community leaders like Jim to comment on ethics and solutions to the challenges arising out of emergency situations.
Jim emphasized the importance of search-and-rescue to the hunting and fishing community. Oftentimes those who spend lots of time in the great outdoors require assistance and these can be life-and-death situations.
